8:36AM - Flames make yet another move

The Calgary Sun

November 30, 2004

The Flames are pleased to welcome Keith Tkachuk to Calgary.

In a move that was totally unexpected and also one of the oddest ones to complete, was consumated late last night over a bottle of strong sasparilla.

"The availability of a player like Tkachuk doesnt happen very often, we had to make a move to see if we could land him,'Axmann was quoted as saying.
Not only was it incredible that the deal actually happened, but some unique budget shuffling also had to take place to have Keith fall into the Flames cap system.

"We enlisted the help of a "good friend" and GM of another team to make this deal happen, Axmann said" "having said that, its great that it worked out."

Tkachuks numbers are pretty incredible and gives the Flames another force up front. "At this point in time," chuckled Axmann, "we are gonna try to outscore the opposition without regard for defensive player, apparently" Of course speaking tongue in cheek, Axmann reassured us that they still have some of the best defensive defenceman in the league with Scott Stevens maintaining the fort. Biron has also proven himself to be a good goaltender and we have every confidence in him.

The deal that made Kieth Tkachuck available to the Flames required the team to say good bye to good person and good defenceman Ken Klee. "Klee was an incredbile force on our defenceman. Hard work and a good efforts each night, Klee was always ready to pitch in. We are very sorry to see him go."

In his place, the Boston Bruins sent Curtis Lysyshcehehhandjuebnnfmndn to the Calgary Flames. Curtis "whatshisname" is a good defensive defenceman and will fit right in.

When asked about going to the Flames, Curtis was very excited going to a contender. "I will make the very most of my opportunity with the Flames, Curtis was quoted as saying.

Departing to the New Yawwwk Rangers, is the highly touted and young, Marco Sturm and good prospect in Dustin Brown and the Flames number 1 draft pick.

Is the team finally set, or are there other moves to come. Axmann told us that every opportunity to make this team better will be evaluated. I will never, say never!!

8:51AM - Flames first quarter HOT report

Our beloved Calgary Flames game out of the gate rather sluggish this season.
How is that different than any other season...its not! However, due in the latter half of the quarter the Flames came on strong going 5 for 5 recently.
Injuries have been difficult. At times, the team has had up to Five players either tired or injured. We hope this trend doesnt continue but alas its hard to say.
Recently Flames GM made a good move by acquiring a highly coveted number 1 defenceman in Sergei Gonchar. It was no secret that the Flames needed a good number 1 high scoring D if they were to make the playoffs.
This along with tweaking the lineup a little bit, we think the team looks good going into the second quarter.
Rating the players individually is not something that GM Axmann prefers to do. He feels that the players are graded as a team and those players that are performing know they are performing and those players that arent, need to have a reality check.
The first quarter warrents a mediocre C effort..but the latter half of the first quarter is definately an A.
We hope that this continues and with recent moves, we see no reason why it shouldn't.
Axmann did mention that if the right goaltender became available, he would look at making that move, but as it stands right now, all is well in Cowtown.

6:13AM - Calgary Flames and New York Islanders complete blockbuster

The Calgary Flames are please to announce the following trade:

Sergei Gonchar, Anson Carter and Byron Dafoe have been acquired in exchange for Eric Daze, Oleg Tverdovsky, Mike Zigomanis and a second round draft pick.

It was no secret that the Flames have been in the market to acquire a true Number 1 Defenceman. Were we expecting to land Gonchar, absolutely not.
However, with the arrival of a new GM, the Flames were approached regarding the acquisition of Eric Daze.

Although the deal had to be reworked, as the original trade was rejected by the CPHL governing body, The Flames are very pleased in the overall deal.

We feel that this will bolster our defence, providing us wiht some scoring up front and give us a good backup in Byron Dafoe.

The Flames are very eager to make the playoffs and hopefully go deep into them. We think that this trade will help us out in accomplishing our goal.
